Haiti Crisis Relief Fund

Summary

Millions of Haitians are confronting a complex crisis driven by political and economic turmoil, leading to widespread violence and food and water scarcity. Haiti is also struggling to recover from and prepare for hurricanes and earthquakes. Your donation to the Haiti Crisis Relief Fund will provide emergency assistance to people in need and support long-term response efforts led by local organizations who continue to deliver vital services.

Challenge

More than 80% of Haiti's capital is under the control of gangs. Violence between armed groups has kept residents from safely accessing affordable food, medical care, markets, and workplaces. The explosion of gang violence in Port-au-Prince is also putting men, women, and children at grave risk of sexual violence and kidnapping. Haiti remains prone to deadly natural hazards such as hurricanes, flooding, and earthquakes. A cholera outbreak is compounding the challenges people are facing.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support emergency relief and response efforts in Haiti, distributing food, clean water, medicine, and other essential supplies and services to people in need, including survivors of sexual-based violence, people with disabilities, and people struggling with livelihoods. As immediate needs are met, the fund will transition to support long-term response and recovery efforts led by local organizations in Haiti.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Haiti Crisis Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food, water, and emergency medical supplies to people
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies
  • Meet other needs that emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
