What's Happening and How to Help

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like these. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges.

The projects listed below are led by vetted GlobalGiving partners responding to this disaster. You can donate directly to a specific project or to GlobalGiving’s Haiti Crisis Relief Fund and we'll allocate it to where it's needed most. GlobalGiving will post reports about how your donation has been put to use.

Help Haitian Midwives STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!
Midwives, as trusted health care professionals, play a critical role in supporting and caring for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). They are often the only care provider that a woman will seek care from in her lifetime. To improve and support their skills in providing trauma-informed care to survivors, FAHM will provide 4-day training for 50 Haitian midwives, interactive live webinars for 200 midwives, outreach and education to 200 youth and ongoing public awareness campaigns.
Free, Educate, and Empower Girls in Haiti
Right now, one in six girls in Haiti is enslaved, one in four is sexually abused, and just one in three completes primary school and starts high school. You can change this. Your gift will support work with communities to end child slavery, which disproportionately traps girls; improve girls' access to educational opportunities and make schools safer; expand efforts proven to prevent violence against girls and women, and; mobilize everyone to balance power between women, men, and girls and boys.
Help Families Grow their Own Food in Rural Haiti
Help Lambi Fund of Haiti expand sustainable agriculture projects to help rural communities feed their families and increase incomes.
Construction Phase 1 for Haiti Leadership Center
We are helping our partner in Haiti, Rasin Devlopman, build a permanent community leadership and development center on the island of La Gonave. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we've already raised the money to purchase the land, hire the architect, and drill a well. Now, we are raising money for the first phase of construction! Money raised on Global Giving will go towards "Building D" of the Center, which includes a veranda, reception area, and office space for staff.
Haiti Crisis Relief Fund
Millions of Haitians are confronting a complex crisis driven by political and economic turmoil, leading to widespread violence and food and water scarcity. Haiti is also struggling to recover from and prepare for hurricanes and earthquakes. Your donation to the Haiti Crisis Relief Fund will provide emergency assistance to people in need and support long-term response efforts led by local organizations who continue to deliver vital services.
Equipment for Fishermen in Southern Haiti
Peace Winds is helping to revitalize a fisherman's cooperative in southern Haiti. The local fishing industry has been suffering due to the economic crisis, natural disasters such as the 2021 earthquake, and security issues throughout the country. All of these factors are making it difficult for Haitians to maintain their jobs and support their families. We need your help to give a group of men and women in the Sud the tools they need to be successful.
Electricity for >2000 people in rural Haiti
Help us restore vital electricity service to rural Haiti's small fishing town of Tiburon. The solar-powered grid was established in 2019 and delivered reliable electricity to over 2000 people for 4 years before suffering a fire. Fixing and replacing the equipment at the site of the fire and upgrading the batteries will get the power flowing again.
Haiti earthquake response: Rehab & Prosthetics
On August 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti causing major damages in Les Cayes. As of August 20, the Haitian Civil Protection reports over 2,189 deaths and 12,268 injured. This devastation, which left 75,000 families without healthcare access, was aggravated by the rains brought by Tropical Storm Grace. Our goal is to provide primary care to the largest number of people needing rehabilitation and prosthetics. We will prioritize people with disabilities and delivery of life-saving supplies
Help us get critical equipment to Haiti!
As conditions continue to deteriorate in Haiti, our staff remains a force of positive change building, implementing, and maintaining our clean water systems. This equipment supports our Water House systems with filter changes, replacement parts, and new pieces to build new Water Houses in communities with no clean water access. We are unable to travel with this equipment safely, but are committed to sending supplies to Haiti to keep our work moving forward in the face of surmounting challenges.
Hope and Solidarity 4 Haiti!
In Creole, we say "Lespwa fe viv". Hope keeps us living. The situation in Haiti is catastrophic. The focus of the media has been on the worst of Haiti. Our organization focuses on its best. Cholera is back with a vengeance, help us save lives. Hunger is a reality more than half of Haitians. Help us increase small farmers 'agricultural production. Economic development increases resilience. Support our economic development initiatives. Funds will help hundreds of families in the South of Haiti.
Hurricane Preparedness at St. Boniface Hospital
At Health Equity International (HEI, formerly SBHF), we give patients the care they need and deserve, even in times of crisis. That's why we're making sure St. Boniface Hospital (SBH) is prepared for hurricane season. Although the coming months may bring floods, power outages, and road blocks, HEI will keep our doors open, no matter what, serving a population of 2.3 million. Your support will help HEI prepare for its role as a center of care and disaster relief for the people of southern Haiti.
Provide food, water, and critical care in Haiti.
Sonje-Ayiti's work continues amidst chaos, violence, Cholera, lockdowns, roadblocks, lack of food, water, medicine and power. Case managers support 100 community members in a program to alleviate extreme poverty. Food is safely distributed or stipends given to the families of many of the 296 students now unable to have a daily meal to buy seeds for fast-growing crops. Treatment and monitoring are provided to 52 severely malnourished children, and mental health community support for depression.
Haiti Earthquake Relief
In August 2021, a 7.2 earthquake rocked Haiti, devastating cities, destroying homes and infrastructure, and burying people in the rubble of collapsed buildings. This earthquake was stronger than the 2010 earthquake, which resulted in more than 200,000 casualties. We have been working in Haiti since 1997, and is responding immediately with emergency support, while also planning for a longer-term response. A gift will enable us to support relief efforts like this around the world.
Haiti Crisis Relief
Amidst the turmoil gripping Haiti, Hope for Haiti's Children stands ready to extend a lifeline to those in desperate need. Gangs reign with impunity, leaving streets fraught with danger, while hunger and fear haunt every corner. In response, we've devised a crisis relief plan to provide vital sustenance to those facing starvation, through carefully orchestrated food distributions. Let's stand in solidarity with the people of Haiti, demonstrating compassion and generosity in their hour of need.
Provide food packages and drinking water in Haiti
The humanitarian situation in Haiti is deteriorating day by day due to a spiral of violence and the deterioration of humanitarian needs in Haiti is unprecedented, more than 3 million people are affected. More than 50% of the population faces food insecurity. 1.4 million people are at risk of famine according to the World Food Program (WFP). To be able to provide emergency support on the ground. We are appealing for donations to provide support to those affected.
Responding to Humanitarian Crisis in Haiti
HRI IS RESPONDING TO A MASSIVE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN HAITI! HRI's physician, nurse, social worker, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) specialist, and other professional staff are partnering with one of the few operational hospitals that is severely understaffed due to the current situation to provide professional medical, WASH and hygiene services to victims of this extreme violence! We are also activating our Mobile Medical Clinic to serve displaced persons and serving 13 orphanages!
Help Mountain Community Prep for Disasters
The Emergency Response Initiative will formally educate & train a mountain community with 600 families, who have acted as first responders to natural disasters, seasonal hurricanes & pandemics. The vulnerable community is isolated. The community must create a plan that includes a structure to store secured shovels, rain gear, go bags, training materials, care packages & emergency response packets to ensure the community's readiness & efficiency when disasters hit.
Saving Orphans from Cholera Outbreak
We have a critically urgent situation developing as 7 orphans in 2 of our HRI supported orphanages in Haiti have contracted CHOLERA, a preventable albeit very deadly disease. With 122 children in one of the orphanages alone, this situation is devastating. We urgently need to hire an additional few nurses to provide immediate prevention programs and services not only to this orphanage, but for more than 400 children in 13 HRI supported orphanages for a minimum of three months.
Provide Crisis Medical and Primary Care in Haiti
Partners in Development (PID) has been working in Haiti since 1990 and providing free medical care in our clinic to the community in Port-au-Prince since 2002. The clinic provides doctor consultations, labs, medicine, and wound care, as well as education programs for diabetic, hypertensive, sickle cell, and prenatal patients. All services are entirely free to ensure even the poorest families can have access to quality medical care.
2021 Haiti Earthquake Relief
Over 11 years since a magnitude 7.0 earthquake decimated Port-Au-Prince, another 7.2 magnitude earthquake has hit just 72 miles south of the country's capital. At a time when Haiti is facing crises at all fronts - a wave of COVID-19 with lack of access to vaccines, political turmoil, heightened food insecurity, and hurricane season just beginning - this could not come at a worse time. PIH has been a trusted figure in the community from 1986 through today and moving forward.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
