Recent changes to the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) have prevented hundreds of refugees who were leaving Turkey from being resettled to start a new life in the US. Your donations will be used to help these people while they wait to leave Turkey, helping them to find somewhere to live and paying for basic living costs.
The refugees who left everything behind them for the second time seem to find themselves in the middle of a new uncertainty. In Turkey, many people are stuck in airports with only their luggage. With desperation, disappointment and with an uncertain future, they feel the same way they felt while fleeing their beloved countries. Now they wait like when they first arrived in Turkey to seek refuge.
All the refugees who are cleared to be resettled in the US have certain vulnerabilities such as chronic illnesses, disabilities, survivors of sex and gender based violence and LGBTIs. They are even more in need than ever since their legal residence in Turkey no longer exists. Donations will help them meet their basic needs during this uncertain process.
Since it is considered as a temporary uncertain situation, we are focused on meeting their immediate urgent needs of these vulnerable families until they can be resettled in the United States or find another durable solution. Providing solidarity for them must be considered as a duty for all the people. ASAM's psychologists, social workers and lawyers will be there to support these families. Any leftover funds will be used to support the urgent needs of the over 3 million refugees in Turkey.
