Progress Report - 2nd Quarter of 2014

There were 5 classes in Basic Literacy and Numeracy training with thirty eight (38) learners (24 are new learners) while Accreditation and & Examination Training had two (2) classes with a total of forty six (46) learners. The street educators /facilitators continuously conducting the modular sessions of BLP and A&E in the following areas; Ermita and Kalaw , Luneta, Pier, and Divisorna/Binondo and Delpan . Out of the 13 learners who filed to take the Department of Education examination under A&E level, one (1) passed the examination. He received the equivalent certificate of Secondary level. All children who passed the examination will be recognized by the Department of Education. They will be having their graduation rites in April of this year. The child is planning to pursue his formal studies in College; he is in the process of preparing for the entrance examination at the Universidad de Manila (UDM). He is hoping to pass the examination and be able to take up a four year course in College. In addition, the child is hoping also that CHAP can help him to support his studies in formal school. Two (2) children (siblings) who were referred to Pangarap Center (1) and the other (1) to Manila Youth Center respectively passed the examination. They were previously attending ALS A&E sessions when they were on the streets.

Progress Report for OCtober to December 2013

For the reporting period, the following street children participants successfully completed their trainings as follows last December 28, 2013: 1 street youth enrolled in Entrepreneurship training; 16 street youth enrolled in Cosmetology (Manicure and Pedicure); and 13 youth enrolled in the Hotel and Restaurant Service. Those who were trained in Manicure and Pedicure are earning income in their respective areas. Meanwhile, youth who were trained on Hotel and Restaurant Service are undergoing On-the-Job Training (OJT) at Queensland Catering and St. Joseph Catering, while one of them is now employed in Jollibee as a service crew. A youth participant who was trained on Entrepreneurship is now managing a barbecue business in Malate area. Moreover, these trained street youth have also attended sessions on Convention on the Rights of the Child, Protective Behaviour and Personal Safety, Skills for Life and Adolescent Reproductive Health. CHAP volunteer, Mr. Kerr Brown conducted a training session on Proper Food Serving among twenty (20) participants and also assisted the youth who completed OJT training on preparation of Curriculum Vitae and proper etiquette in applying for a job.
Out of 36 children enrolled in formal school, two (2) children dropped out due to family problems and ran away from their families during the reporting period. The social worker visited the children's families and conducted counselling sessions with the children and their parents. The parents encouraged their children to return home but the children were not able to go back to school. One of them plans to take a short term course in the next school year since the family has difficulty to sustain her educational needs in college, while the other child plans to continue her studies in high school next school year. In the meantime, the children are undergoing counselling and regularly attend the alternative education and counselling sessions to help them to come up with good decisions. Regular meetings, group counselling sessions and home/school visitations are continuously conducted to closely monitor the children's performance in school and to help them address their issues and concerns. Regular provisions of monthly allowances to children were disbursed on time to support their daily school needs. Fifteen (15) EAP children continuously attend a tutorial class in Math held in the Childhope office every Saturday conducted by a voluntee.

Cheers to 2014!
We are pleased to share with you the attached 3rd Quarter Narrative Street Education Program Report covering for the period of July to September 2013. It includes the highlights as well as the progress of the street children we assist through your help and support to our programs and to our organization. Four (4) of the street children we assist were referred to centers and will definitely have a chance to go back to formal school and have a better future.
Thank you so much for all you help. May you still continue to help the underpriviledge street children in the Philippines especially in Metro Manila. May the Lord bless you all abudantly.
