Summary

During this pandemic, we need your support to continue serving and responding to the evolving needs of youth and families already facing complex challenges and at risk of financial and food insecurity. Your gift will help youth remain safe, healthy, and resilient to additional challenges and hardships. Innovative housing, academic, mental health, and other programs and services will protect youths' physical and mental health and minimize learning loss during this unprecedented crisis.

Challenge

During the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis, LAYC continues to serve over 5,000 youth and families annually and respond to the evolving needs of those who already face complex challenges and are at risk of financial and food insecurity. Many youth we serve are unstably housed, have substance use or mental health issues, and have limited access to resources, including remote learning resources. These increasing needs are adding further barriers to youths' long-term health and well-being.

Solution

Your gift will allow us to meet diverse youth needs as many head back to school and navigate remote learning. Staff are providing online academic support for students and "telehealth" counseling as needed. We are distributing food and diapers to families and conducting daily follow-ups and well-being check-ins. We also continue to connect homeless youth to safe housing. Activities will help keep youth safe, ensure food and basic needs are met, manage youth anxieties, and minimize learning loss.

Long-Term Impact

With your help, youth will remain safe and access food and supplies that ensure resilience to hardships resulting from the pandemic. Academic support will help students advance in their learning while schools are closed, including GED studies. We are uncertain of the duration of this crisis and the impact it will have on employment and household financial security. It is imperative we continue to be a beacon of hope to everyone we serve through consistent care, service, and resource connections.
