Challenge

Due to lack of adequate latrines in the two schools, the young school pupils have resorted to use open fields and the nearby bushes as their alternative latrines when in school hence frequency of hygiene and sanitation illnesses and deaths among the pupils and the community around the schools. Also, endangering their security and exposing them to defilement. The emergence of COVID-19 disease has found the schools with ill prepared, this project will provide that support.

Solution

The built modern pit latrines will be enough and adequate thus no more use of bushes and field as latrines, thus greatly improving on the hygiene and sanitation of the schools. By this, hygiene based illnesses and deaths will be curbed. There will no more defilement cases and pupils' security will be assured of while in school. It will also help in COVID 19 management due to handwashing stations that will be erected there.

Long-Term Impact

The project aims to build a two, 5-doors modern latrines per school to 657 and 543 pupils at Awuoro and Ngulu-Kanyango Primary Schools respectively. In the long run, money for treatment and being sent off as a result of death from these diseases will be directed to beneficial use thus boosting the economy of the area. Time taken by the pupils to seek medication will be put for academic purposes thus improving education standards of the two schools and containment of COVID-19.
