Thanks to your generous support, Global Girl Project has been working in South Africa through our partnership with Skateistan South Africa, training girls from marginalised communities to lead change.
Between January to March 2026, we completed a cohort with 9 girls. During their 3month leadership journey, the girls attended weekly sessions where they explored the power in their voices, identified local issues, and learned practical leadership skills in project planning and advocacy.
These young leaders addressed drug abuse among young people. They conducted a community assessment first, then planned and led an event with guest speakers – including a former substance user who shared lived experiences. The event reached 40 community members, including young people, parents, and local leaders.
One graduate shared: "I realised that we actually have a voice in our community and we can use it to help others make better choices."
A parent added: "Seeing them speaking in front of a large number really shows they are growing."
The $26 raised has contributed towards a girl's education grant, supporting her to stay in school and remain engaged in leadership training. We are continuing to build leadership skills and community action in South Africa. Thank you for making this possible.
