Our project trains and up-skills teachers from previously disadvantaged communities to teach the subject Tourism in high schools more effectively in order to produce a skilled, competent future workforce for South Africa's blooming tourism & hospitality industry. We need your help to continue the training and up-skilling of Tourism teachers through our annual flagship event, the annual 4-day National Tourism Education Conference. Help our students to find employment in the tourism industry.
South Africa does not have the skilled workforce to fill positions that are going to become available soon through huge investments planned for South Africa's tourism industry. Tourism teachers have to be up-skilled to deliver a competent, skilled workforce who are digitally literate, inventive thinkers and effective communicators who can deliver high levels of productivity. Reality is, Tourism teachers in South Africa are generally subject specialists in other fields of study.
The training and upskilling of Tourism teachers are focused on understanding of the curriculum content, the development of ICT skills, using technology in the classroom more effectively, exposure to the tourism industry in South Africa and the development of soft skills for students to make them more employable. Training and upskilling is ongoing throughout the year, however the flagship event is the annual 4-day National Tourism Education Conference where 300 teachers learn from experts.
The event is a very successful platform to train and up-skill Tourism teachers - even those who teach in the most outlying areas of South Africa. The training and upskilling of 300 Tourism help to develop much-needed Tourism expertise and build capacity within the education system. This in turn will ultimately result in better prepared young people leaving school with a much better chance of success in the higher education system or find employment in the tourism industry.
