This project seeks to train coffee producers in the municipality of San Juan Yaee, in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca in the cultivation of vanilla as an altrnative, because they currently face a growing impoverishment of their population and that in the last 5 years, families are losing their production after a strong plague attack. This leads to deforestation of cultivated areas, the deterioration of low levels of welfare and more people emigrating.
Faced with the loss of their coffee production by a plague, the producers of the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, face deforestation of their land by having to replace more aggressive crops with the environment, also undermines their economic welfare and increases migration. The cultivation of vanilla is proposed as a compatible productive alternative for the diversification of the coffee plantation or in substitution of this without altering the environment, being a product of easy appropriation and gre
The project will provide comprehensive support (training, technical assistance, inputs, tools, vegetative material, follow-up visits) for the activities of introducing suitable varieties of vanilla (provision of cuttings) and sowing, crop management and shade, incorporating more families to production and marketing. For coffee we will support the selection of more resilient varieties under agroforestry systems.
With the technical appropriation of the productive processes, harvest and market of both economic activities, the producers will become less dependent, their plots will be more profitable, they will improve their income by maintaining two commercial productive activities. The families maintain their roots in spite of probable fluctuations in the market prices of the products. Increasing incorporation of producers to vanilla sowing and restoration of coffee areas.
