This project will train 100 Bahamian middle and high school students in coral restoration and scuba diving, equipping them to carve out meaningful careers while championing the preservation of marine life. By investing in local education and capacity-building, we not only protect the delicate balance of coral reefs, but also support the resilience and livelihoods of island communities dependent on a healthy ocean.
In The Bahamas, coral reefs, the lifeblood of our oceans, face devastating threats from climate change, pollution, coral disease, and overfishing, leading to the heartbreaking loss of up to 80% of Caribbean coral reefs. This destruction not only endangers the vibrant marine life but also threatens the livelihoods of local fishers, vital tourism revenue, and the natural barrier that protects our coastal communities from storms and erosion.
Empowering and educating locals in coral restoration is our hope for preserving these vital ecosystems and securing a sustainable future for the Bahamian people. This project will train 100 Bahamian youth in coral restoration and scuba diving, turning them into passionate stewards of their marine environment. Beyond conservation, local students will gain the expertise needed for careers in the environmental sector, helping to ensure the long-term health of marine ecosystems.
