Challenge

90% of children attending our educational projects have social, health and educational special needs. Our dedicated teachers do not have the specialised expertise to support and develop the abilities of all the children in their care. Overall behaviour issues, emotional well-being and gaps in learning are preventing students to achieve their full potential. By training and giving ongoing support to these teachers the students and wider community will benefit by better engaging in education.

Solution

We will provide materials, support and training to teachers in order to develop their understanding of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We will assemble a group of experienced teaching professionals to collaborate and share good practise with teachers working on our projects and identify future opportunities for CPD. Teachers will use their new skills and knowledge in the classroom to provide a specialised approach to teaching and learning appropriate to their children's needs.

Long-Term Impact

The project will give 30 teachers knowledge, strategies and resources to enable their students to access more of the curriculum, which will improve the level of teaching and learning, the behaviour of students, the academic progress and the emotional well-being of up to 2000 students and 30 staff working across our educational projects. The benefits of successfully accessing education will allow our students to rise out of poverty, which will provide for themselves and their families well-being.
