This project will provide critical resources for Green Corps to give top-notch training in organizing and advocacy to 20-25 young, aspiring environmental organizers through our yearlong fellowship program. Skills such as recruitment, media work, coalition building, leadership development, lobbying and campaign strategy will empower organizers to run and win critical environmental campaigns both during their Green Corps year and beyond as they launch careers in environmental and social change.
We have plenty of solutions to the biggest environmental challenges we face -- climate change, air pollution, public lands protection -- but we lack the political will to implement them. Decision-makers are too quick to yield to special interests whose priorities are incompatible with leaving a better, cleaner environment to future generations.
While we can't compete financially with groups blocking progress, by galvanizing the public we can make even the most recalcitrant decision-maker act for the betterment of our environment. Many of our nation's leading environmental groups are embracing grassroots organizing as a core strategy, but often have difficulty recruiting and training talented staff. Green Corps' stream of new recruits trained for effective advocacy is the life blood and future of the environmental movement.
Green Corps captures the energy and potential of young people today and gives them the tools to organize for positive environmental and social change. During the last 27 years, we've graduated nearly 400 organizers who have gone on to work as executive directors, field directors, campaign directors, grassroots organizers and more with leading statewide, regional, national and international organizations -- making an impact for decades beyond their Green Corps year.
