Genesis Children's Centre-Uganda (GCC-Uganda) aims to build a rehabilitation centre for widows and single mothers in Budianga Village, Buwoya to provide life skills training to 263 homesteads traumatized by early pregnancies, forced marriages, and HIV/AIDS.
In Uganda, being a widow, orphan, and or single mother renders you amongst the most vulnerable members of the community, especially if you are suffering with HIV/AIDS. Budianga Village has the highest concentration of this population in their local area. Individuals living in these circumstances are susceptible to numerous obstacles such as rejection, lack of educational opportunity, heightened poverty rates, dispossession of property as well as other forms of gross mistreatment.
The GCC-Uganda Rehabilitation Centre will provide a sustainable community-based solution to this problem by erecting a facility in Budianga Village. This establishment will seek to offer training and services to improve education and literacy rates as well as teach life skills, self-advocacy, and business fundamentals to empower widows and young mothers to lift themselves out of poverty.
By creating a community-based NGO that offers a well-rounded education and skills training program for widows and single-mothers in the Budianga community, it will enable them to stem the tide of systemic poverty in their surrounding area through commerce and entrepreneurship.
