A day in the life of an Amun Shea Teacher

By Milagro Fuentes | Project Communication Assistant

At Amún Shéa, the heart of education is not found in the textbooks or classrooms; it is in the people who show up every day with dedication and purpose. One such person is Alvaro, an English teacher at Amún Shéa School, who shares what a day in his life looks like.

Hi! It’s Alvaro. I’m 26 years old. My day starts with taking the school bus with the kids, usually at 6:40 a.m. I go to the office, unlock the classroom, and make sure everything is in order. I check my schedule to see where I am needed. Sometimes, I do area supervision before classes begin. Then, I teach different English lessons to the students, and then it’s time for recess.

At lunchtime, I eat, and then I’m assigned to keep an eye on things afterwards before we all head back to class. By 3:00 pm, the students are done for the day, and the teachers stay an extra hour to plan or schedule school activities. Around 4:00 p.m. I finally head home.

Why did you decide to work at Amún Shéa? I wanted experience; I have always loved teaching, and I realized that sharing my knowledge is what truly fulfills me. I even have my own academy where I teach on Saturday.

What are you passionate about? Teaching and sharing my knowledge. Ever since I was young, my parents encouraged me to learn as much as I could. Now, if someone asks me something and I know the answer, I am happy to teach it. And if I don’t know the answer yet, I look it up. My passion is helping others learn.

Teacher Alvaro is a testament to the educational power and passion of those who dedicate their lives to it. Thanks to your support, as readers and donors, we keep classrooms open, dreams alive, and knowledge flowing. On behalf of Amún Shéa and the entire PEOF team, thank you for believing in our mission and helping to create a brighter and more peaceful El Salvador.
