We Hit A Jackpot!

By JACQUELINE AUDIGE | CEO / Founder

Together We are Winners
Together We are Winners

I started my workday on Monday July 2, 2018 with my usual morning routine until my phone rang. It was a call from Cameroon. I picked it up and at the other end of the line was our Aumazo/Zoma COO Mr. Franck Olivier Zouabet. He kept shouting: “Celebration! CelebrationCelebration!”  What celebration? I asked. He finally regained his composure and said: “We hit a jackpot this year. Sixteengirls out of the twenty-two in our tutoring program who sit the exam passed the high school entrance exam.”

At this instant, I jumped off my chair and started screaming with joy, alerting everyone around me. I wanted to yell the news to the world from the rooftop. Right away, I also wanted to call you and share the news with you and every supporter of our program. I could barely contain myself but resolved to do so and gather more information about the results before spreading the word.

A Collective Win

The 73%pass rate comprises 81.25 %for general education that is 13girls out of 16 and 50%for technical education also 3girls out of 6.

These resultsfrom the second year have completely reshaped the future of our tutoring program and the Aumazo project as a whole. They demonstrate a quantum leap upward compared to the program's first year during which the pass rate of the high school entrance exam was 35%for general education and 0%for the technical education.

The improved performance is due to our methodology, which emphasizes mutual respect of students and teachers as well as collaborative learning. We also credit our success to your unwavering support. Thank you for being a member of our winning team. We could not have done this without your continued contributions.

Outstanding Results From Our Tutoring Program

Although we noticed some improvement in testing results for girls throughout rural Cameroon, the performance of girls in our tutoring program is outstanding. We checked the results of the general education from other schools in the neighboring villages. In Baboutcheu-Nintcheu the closest village to Bankonkji, fifty-one girls sit the exam and thirty passed. That is 59%pass rate. Also at St Paul’ in Bafang town (where most of our girls who passed the exam will enroll in the high school next school year) seventy-six girls sat the exam and fifty-six passed. That is 74%pass rate.

Our81.25%pass rate for general education really calls for celebration. Impassible dirt roads during the raining seasons did not stop our teachers from traveling to the village to teach the girls. They went beyond their normal Math, English and French lessons to provide Social Studies lessons to the girls whose day school Social Studies teacher was absent since November 2017.

Your Fruitful Support

Thank you for being part of this magical moment. Honestly, your continuous support made this happen.  The impact of your gifts is palpable.  We count on your generosity again during our 50% MatchBonus Day on July 18, 2018.

Again, thank you for being Aumazo’s # 1 supporter

Sincerely,

Jacqueline Audige and the Board
