Help transform the lives of indigenous youth in Fortaleza, Brazil. These young people face a lack of quality education, job opportunities, and healthy spaces for personal development. By strengthening their self-esteem, cultural identity, and school performance, we are empowering these youth to be the protagonists of their own lives and agents of change in their community. Historically, the indigenous peoples of Brazil have been marginalized and largely excluded from society, placing them at high risk for extreme poverty, drug addiction, prostitution, violence, complacency, and depression. These are the realities facing the indigenous populations on the outskirts of Fortaleza in Northeast Brazil. Emphasizing the value of cultural identity, this project encourages and accompanies 30 indigenous youth in their academic, professional, and personal development.
This project promotes the means for a dignified life and ascension to the job market through additional educational services, such as tutoring, community therapy sessions for the development of self-esteem, and extracurricular activities that inspire a sense of cultural identity and responsibility. This personal accompaniment will enable the youth to develop the skills and characteristics essential for overcoming the challenges they face each day and for creating fulfilling lives.
While the indigenous youth will be those who are directly affected by the present project, the effects of their personal, academic, and professional success will be far-reaching. As healthy, productive members of society with a strong sense of cultural identity, these young people will become agents of transformation for themselves, their families, and their community as a whole.
