In 2015, when Rede Cidadã was already working for 13 years on job placement and income generation for the most vulnerable in Brazil, the United Nations launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Among them, the one SDG we feels represents our purpose and mission since we started in 2002, is number 10 - Reducing inequalities.
By reducing inequalities of access to education, training, income generation and job placement, Rede brings life changing opportunities for the most in need. And the inclusion of diversity is a very important way to decrease inequalities. In May the whole world celebrated the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and we heard from our staff, beneficiaries and partner companies how important it is to include and embrasse people from different sexual orientation and/or gender.
As Douglas, a young gay man working as an apprentice through Rede Cidadã Aprenticeship Program said, "It’s very important that we have opportunities to show there’s diversity at work and in the world, and in the end, we are all equal. It’s necessary to show people that differences exist, and that respect must prevail."
And in a digital world, one of the best ways to reduce inequalities is granting IT access to the ones who do not have the means. In the first semester of 2023, we were able to implement a new program to renew and build computer/IT labs to grant access to this digital world to our beneficiaries. We have just finished to implement four new labs in Nova Lima and Sete Lagoas in the state of Minas Gerais, Recife in the statet of Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro in the state of Rio de Janeiro. With those labs we will be able to increase access to hundreds of young people looking for jobs. By accessing the digital world, we support youth with their training and job search, as well as school homework, family related issues, and important information and content.
All this is only possible because of the support of people and companies who, like you, believe in our work to give ooportunities and transform lives. Rede Cidadã is very lucky to have people and companies who share the same view of reducing inequalities.
We invite you to read our latest newsletter on the importance of including people from the LGBTQIAP+ community, as well as to visit our website to learn more about our programs and projects and to meet our partners.
Thank you for your support!
