Brazilian statistics show that every 17 minutes a young person dies as a result of violence and lack of perspective. Computer labs are tools for social transformation, as their structure provides the technical and behavioral development of socially vulnerable young people, preparing them for opportunities in the world of work. Young Brazilians need opportunities to soar and change their reality and that of their families and that is why Rede Cidada counts on your support!
Brazil currently has a population of more than 207 million in habitants and almost 14.8 million unemployed. Of these numbers, 17% are young people aged 14 to 24, the age group that concentrates 7.1 million people who neither work nor study, the so-called young neither-nor. The poorest are even more affected, the average salary of a young person is US$240 per month, with 10% of the most vulnerable group living on less than US$100, resulting in a lack of perspective.
My name is James and ten years ago, while I was still a gatekeeper, I was impacted by the Rede Cidada Start project. Through this project, I was able to learn behavioral and technical skills that would lead me to become a technical leader here in Europe today. It was through this project that I was able to see new horizons, new doors opened for me after learning technology and that is why I want to highlight the importance of teaching technology to our young people in Brazil.
The vulnerable population, without receiving incentives, is left to pain, violence and hopelessness. A large portion of this population does not have access to technology and digital platforms that are essential for life, for learning and also for inclusion in the world of work, which makes it possible to achieve autonomy and protagonism. With your support, around 3,000 young people will be served by Rede Cidada's Computer Labs and will have real chances of leaving their vulnerable condition.
