Summary

We started this project nearly three years ago with the goal of transforming the lives of 50 children in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Cartagena. Since then, we have distributed over 10.000 meals and provided a host of educational, recreational, and health-related support activities. Now we are looking to build new facilities to expand our services to the 200 children that are most vulnerable to malnutrition, domestic violence, gangs and drugs.

Challenge

In the southeast of Cartagena, most of the children have grown up experiencing malnutrition, domestic and gang-related violence. The hazardous environment in which these kids have grown up creates a vicious cycle that few escape.

Solution

This project aims to holistically transform the lives of 200 children, for them to thrive in society and give back to their communities. For this purpose, we provide nutritious meals and a rich set of services across education, recreation and health. The children's mothers are also trained in responsible childcare to reduce domestic violence, and entrepreneurship skills to become self-sustaining.

Long-Term Impact

In about 15-20 years, we aim for the children to have the opportunity to graduate from university, get well-paid jobs and give back to their communities, thus breaking the vicious cycle of poverty and crime in their current surroundings. This is what we mean by the holistic transformation of their lives.
