Thanks to a very generous end-or-year donor, the FAVL team in Burkina Faso is now ready to move forward with this project. A tricycle motobike and "cart" will be purchased in Janaury 2018 and an assistant "mobile librarian" hired and trained to operate this project starting in February. We will initiate the project in the small town of Kaya, for logistical reasons, and start the first months of the project delivering library books to schools in the area. As we acquire experience with operating the mobile library we will increasingly target more remote rural villages. We are very excited to implement this project!
In December the FAVL Burkina Faso team conducted an exercise implementing a mobile library in a local school, with our partner organisation Catholic Relief Services (the joint Beoog Biiga II project established 20 libraries in northern Burkina Faso in 2015, and these libraries continue to be supported). A tricycle was hired, and books and reading activities were carried out in a local school. Photos below are from the activity in December 2017.
FAVL continues to operate 34 community libraries in Burkina Faso. Our latest December 2017 newsletter is available here. In the coming months of 2018, we will continue to supply libraries in our network with new books, as fuding permits. We are also producing 16 more photo books for distribution in the libraries.
