Challenge

The psychosocial conflict among Colorado youth and teens surrounding depression, suicide, substance use, truancy, and social media and technology is one that continues to grow almost exponentially. According to Mental Health Colorado, Colorado has a teen suicide rate that is twice that of the national average. One of the highest in the country. More teens, now, lose their life to suicide than car accidents. Being able to assist in minimizing this epidemic is overarching goal of this project.

Solution

Helping teens conquer life challenges and guiding them to make smart decisions through community mentorship and engagement, counseling, advising, and tutoring (educational services) to adolescents through interactive and fun-based workshops, shadowing programs, one-on-one and group counseling, life skills education, and college preparation. Empowering youth to utilize their talents, strengths, and experiences to find their passion, find their voice, advocate for self, and advance themselves.

Long-Term Impact

SOAR will provide services that guide 100 adolescents toward successful future endeavors and encourage them to stay focused regardless of unfavorable influences or circumstances. We aim to encourage positive peer relationships and help adolescents identify triggers that precede incidents that create negative consequences, encourage positive coping skills, and help enhance their intrinsic core values. SOAR purposes to bridge the gap between who they are now and who we believe they can become.
