On behalf of the entire ‘Jivdaya Family,’ we wish a very happy & Prosperous New Year’ to all our donors and supporters for your outstanding support and contribution throughout a difficult year like 2020.
January month was a very busy month for Jivdaya charitable Trust, as winter struck hard in Ahmedabad this year, many stray animals fighting to cope up with this weather. Our Out Patient Department (OPD) used to receive close to 100 cases per day in January. The cases were mostly road accidents, parvovirus, skin infection etc.
“Uttarayan save Birds Campaign” is one of the most important campaigns of the year for Jivdaya Charitable Trust, which takes place in January. Every January we receive more than 3500 birds who get injured by the deadly glass coated thread mainly used for kite flying.
This time we have started receiving a huge number of injured migrated and resident birds from December month onwards. We have received many painted stork, black ibis, grey leg goose, Indian rock pigeon, Indian black kites, red wattled lapwings, Indian thick-knee, and some of the rare species like Eurasian Griffon Vulture, Osprey, etc badly injured due to entangled loose threads accumulated on the tree branches, cables, poles, roadside and many more places. These avian casualties do not stop till the end of March, each bird we have received in our hospital was usually suffering from deep lacerated wounds on the wings and legs, sometimes with fractures and most of them needed surgical intervention to repair the lacerated wounds. This includes mainly soft tissue surgeries but sometimes require orthopaedic surgeries including intramedullary pinning of many variations. Post-operative care and management for these birds continue from 5 days to a few months depending on the nature and degree of the injury and recovery.
Below is the summary of total animals and birds treated in our facility (January 2021):
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our supporters for being an amazing helping hand to serve all the ailing animals & birds with medical assistance and care. You are the best!!
