'Charlie' the Jackal, a victim of urbanization

By Moumita | Program Director

Charlie was brought to Jivdaya after an accident

Recently, we received a distressing report about a highway accident involving a wild animal. Our team immediately rushed to the scene, hearts pounding with worry, and found a beautiful jackal that had been struck by a two-wheeler. We named him Charlie, our brave little jackal fighting for survival. With heavy hearts but determined spirits, we quickly transported him to our shelter and began treatment.

Charlie arrived in a recumbent state, looking so fragile and vulnerable. The doctors suspected head trauma. They stabilised him with fluids, carefully managing his pain and reducing inflammation. Each passing hour felt like an eternity, but after two days of treatment, he began to show signs of recovery. When Charlie took his first steps again, our hearts swelled with hope and joy. We continued infrared therapy as a part of his treatment and he is showing remarkable progress.

This incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing reduction in forest areas, leading to increased animal-human conflicts. Gujarat alone has witnessed over 91,000 such cases this year. The loss of vegetation is not just an environmental issue; it disrupts the delicate balance of our ecosystem and forces animals like Charlie into dangerous situations.

Charlie’s story is a testament to resilience and the impact of compassion. He deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life. Join us in helping to save Charlie. Your support, no matter how small, will make a world of difference. Together, we can ensure that this precious life is saved and that countless other animals have a fighting chance too.
