Most Key Populations including men who have sex with men living with HIV in Cameroon are rejected by their families and friends. They cannot afford to treat opportunistic diseases when they reach the AIDS phase. Humanity First Cameroon is an organization who believes in a world free of any form of discrimiantion on the basis of HIV status or sexual orientation. This project will therefore adress this issue by giving hope to 25 people from sexual minorities living with HIV in Yaounde.
The problem that this project is intended to adress is the lack of fund to effectively treat opportunistic infections occuring to LGBTI living with AIDS. Existing HIV programs are mostly focused on prevention and antiretroviral treament. LGBTI who are socially excluded in Cameroon because of their sexual orientation continue to silently die from AIDS. They are sometimes abandoned at hospital without receiving any form of care or palliative measures.
To solve this problem, we intend to support 25 key populations living with HIV in Yaounde with a minimum package of service in order to treat their opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis, cervical cancer, anal condylomas and other forms of rare cancers. We will also strenghthen the technical supply of our drop in center in order to treat some of these infection at the community level. In fact, our beneficiairies because of stigma prefer to be treated at community level.
The first potential long-term impact will be the decline of AIDS related death within key popualtions. We also want to give a good quality of sexual and reproductive health services by strenghthening the technical capacities of our drop-in -center. our actions will also help us to reduce the number of new HIV infections among and de facto the life expectancy of sexual minorities. In other hand , this program will contribute to set up an enabling environement for key popualtions in Cameroon .
