Many children living with sickle cell disease in Kumasi face frequent pain crises, severe anemia, infections, and repeated hospital visits. Due to poverty and the high cost of treatment, many families struggle to afford medications, laboratory tests, and ongoing medical care for their children. This project will provide medical treatment, medicines, health monitoring, and support services for 300 vulnerable children living with sickle cell disease in Kumasi.
Sickle cell disease is a serious lifelong condition that affects many children in Ghana. Families often face financial hardship due to the cost of treatment, blood transfusions, medications, and regular hospital care. Without proper treatment and monitoring, children with sickle cell disease are at risk of severe pain episodes, infections, stroke, and life-threatening complications.
This project will provide medical consultations, laboratory testing, medicines, pain management support, and routine health monitoring for children living with sickle cell disease. The project will also support families with health education on nutrition, hydration, infection prevention, and early treatment seeking to help improve long-term health outcomes.
This project will improve the health and quality of life of 300 children living with sickle cell disease in Kumasi. It will reduce severe complications, improve access to regular medical care, strengthen family awareness about sickle cell management, and help vulnerable children live healthier and more stable lives.
