This is the last progress report for Mahavir Netralaya. The project is 98% funded due to generous donations from supporters of HHH. Special mention is required for the 2 Dr's from HHH who spearheaded the donations. Dr. Radha Gridharan and Dr.Chitra
Over the past 2 years we managed to collect a sum of $70,000 for Mahavir and also other 4 Eye projects which are supported by HHH. The poor children in Bihar with retinal issues have so much to thank each of you.
ln the last quarter we have been pursuing our endeavor to a healthy society as far as vision is concerned. We have kept our Surgery cost quite affordable which is very much lesser than what private practitioners are charging. Also, we are flexible with our surgery cost and we are making adjustment for the poor people in couple of cases, it is even done for free. Details of the Retinal surgery conducted (in lesser cost) at Mahavir Netralaya in last quarter:
Vitero etinal (VR) surgeries for Retinal detachment - 3 Eyes
Vitero Retinal surgeries for Vitreous Haemorrase - 2 Eyes
Management of nuclear Epiretinal Memb removal - 1 Eye
Management of nuclear macular hole - 2 Eyes
Photocoagulation(By Green Laser) for ROP - 2 Eyes
Intravitreal Antivecif for ROP - 2 Eye
Moreover As babies with premature birth are mostly sick & hospitalized, so we are planning to visit them in NICU itself and provide bedside Retinal examination. We are also going to conduct screening for Diabetic retinopathy in nearby places prevalence of Diabetes is very high in this part.
We have been successfully performing all above mentioned VR procedures in the past.
We would like to continue our services at an affordable cost. So that no patient should be left untreated.
For bedside screening of ROP we would like to purchase one good quality lndiect Opthalmoscope which costs around Rs. 2 lakhs with +28.0 D lens.
We are going to proceed with our programme with our own resources at present, in the last quarter we have been successfully performing retinal surgeries in a large number of cases including pediatric retinal cases.
The outcome of surgery was satisfactory and the patients were able to see much better. ln view of our growing number of retinal surgeries, we require funds to enhance our setup and be able to extend our reach to far corners of Bihar.
