Save the Children Philippines is distributing 1,000 hygiene kits, 1,000 household kits, 1,000 jerry cans, and 1,000 learning materials to help children and their families in Western Visayas and Maguindanao survive and recover from the impacts of Severe Tropical Storm Nalgae (local name Paeng). Save the Children Philippines continues to find ways to ensure that no Filipino children and families will be left behind.
Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (with international name Nalgae), the 16th typhoon that entered the country, brought heavy rains and massive flooding in various parts of the Philippines. It affected several thousands of families including children, especially in the areas of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Western and Eastern Visayas, and Bicol. Many families remain displaced and are staying in evacuation centers, while others are without water and power supply.
Save the Children Philippines immediately deployed a team in Maguindanao to assess the full extent of the damage. As part of our immediate response while assessing Typhooh Paeng's impact, we provided 200 children from Dinaig Elementary School in Maguindanao with learning and essential hygiene kits.
Together, we can help children and their families impacted by Typhoon Paeng survive and recover. This is also to ensure that they will be prepared in the advent of another typhoon forecasted to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the coming days.
