Imagine being part of a team that equips a mother, economically destroyed by Covid 19, with skills that will enable her to place a plate of food again for their hungry children daily! Your 10, 20, 50, or 1000 dollar-contribution will just do that! This women project aims at training in tailoring, fashion and design skills in Kware slums, Kajiado County, Kenya. It targets 200 women from highly needy families who will open their own small tailoring shops or be employed upon graduating.
According to UNICEF, 46% of Kenyans live below the poverty line. This was before Covid 19 pandemic. Majority of these people live in the suburbs of the urban centers and the capital city. OngataRongai slums serves as one of these poverty-stricken slums in Kajiado County. Basically it serves the affluent locals with cheap labor which aggravates the situation. There are more than 10000 women of this kind in this locality. This project seeks to address at least 1000 of this women within two years.
This project will help women establish their own tailoring shops while others will be employed by this organization as it grows. The organization offers to help women with tailoring machines. This will help them to make money through selling of different types of clothes and employ others to assist them.
The project will enable 1000 women gain skills and knowledge allowing them to rise out of poverty by establishing their own dress-making shops or being employed for better wages and salaries.
