Humanitarian Crisis in Northern Syria’s Camps
The recent political transition in Syria has shifted international focus away from the humanitarian crisis in the northern camps, leaving tens of thousands without adequate aid. The ongoing conflict, spanning over a decade, has led to severe challenges, particularly in Mukawama Camp, where over 20,000 residents—many of them children—face extreme cold, food insecurity, lack of shelter, and limited access to clean water.
Urgent Humanitarian Needs
With reduced international support, immediate intervention is crucial to address the deteriorating conditions in these camps. Shelter reconstruction and clean water access remain top priorities, as many homes have been destroyed or require urgent renovation. However, political changes have diverted attention away from these pressing needs.
Our Humanitarian Response
To support displaced communities, our Foundation is partnering with donors to construct earthquake-resistant housing and community centers in the Ahtarin region. These safe living spaces are expected to be completed by May, providing much-needed stability to families affected by conflict and natural disasters.
Additionally, in response to the devastating February 6 earthquakes, we have collaborated with AFAD to restore critical water infrastructure. Key initiatives include:
- Inaugurating a 100-cubic-meter water tank in Soran to rehabilitate essential services.
- Launching a solar energy project to power water pumping stations.
- Repairing an earthquake-damaged water tank and drilling a new water well, ensuring clean water access for 35,000 people daily.
Amid shifting political dynamics, it is imperative to maintain focus on northern Syria’s vulnerable communities. Through strategic partnerships and targeted humanitarian efforts, we are committed to providing long-term solutions, ensuring access to shelter, clean water, and essential medical services for those most in need.
