The Francesca Rava Foundation responded immediately to the emergency in Turkey and Syria, launching the first aid a few days after the terrible earthquake that destroyed a large area on the border of the two countries.
The Foundation's response was organized according to what was defined by a study of the Bocconi University of MIlan, "the Rava Model": Assessment of needs in the field, collaboration with institutions, activation of the network of donors and suppliers, effective logistic coordination and speed of action.
Thanks to contact with local partners and in collaboration with the institutions, the Foundation was able to ascertain the real need and send first aid to Kilis, 50 km from Gaziantep and 60 km from Aleppo.
Medicines and sanitary material among the first needs identified. A delegation from the Emergency Team of the Foundation promptly went to the area to set up a collection and distribution point for food, medicine, hot drinks and blankets in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Kilis. Aid has also been extended to other areas.
The Foundation has activated the collaboration protocol for emergencies with the Italian Navy by embarking the first container of sanitary aid on Nave San Marco to be received by local partners and delivered to a hospital in Kilis. With the support of technical and logistic partners, the Foundation has mapped out a quick and safe route to arrive directly on the coasts of Turkey and reach with aid the thousands of people displaced.
The relationship with the institutions was fundamental to ensure that aid was entrusted to AFAD, local civil protection, and distributed throughout the territory affected by the earthquake. Indeed, the Foundation has worked in constant contact with the Crisis Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the Italian Embassy in Ankara
