Devastating earthquakes in southeastern Turkey have left hundreds of thousands of people homeless and some towns and villages completely wiped off the map. In the year and a half since the earthquake, most of the population, especially in Hatay, has been living in container cities, affecting children the most. With this project, we aim to provide food, clothing, hygiene and care supplies and toys to 1000 refugee and host community children affected by the earthquake.
One and a half years after the devastating earthquakes of February 6, 2023, hundreds of thousands of people still living in containers need support to meet their most basic needs such as food, shelter and heating. At the same time, the loss of safe home spaces and losses in their families and/or communities have caused fear, anxiety and stress in children. Children also need safe materials and toys to play with so that they can move on to the recovery phase.
The first step for children to survive is to meet their needs for warmth, shelter and nutrition. However, it is also a child's fundamental right to have their psychological and emotional needs met as well as their physical health. We use the donations we receive in this project to provide children with one month's worth of food and hygiene needs, warming tools such as blankets and coats, as well as toys, stationery and educational materials.
The project will meet the most basic physical and psycho-social needs of 1,000 earthquake-affected refugee and local children, supporting their recovery and renewed hope.
