Thank you for your generous donation to the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Relief Fund. GlobalGiving’s trusted network of vetted nonprofit partners in the region continues to advance recovery efforts thanks to ongoing support from people like you.

In this latest grant round supported by your donation,, GlobalGiving has awarded more than $1.2 million dollars in grant funding to 12 trusted partners in our community who are based in and working across the most affected communities in Turkey and Syria. Many of these partners are providing direct support to communities in need, and are also organizations providing grants and microgrants to grassroots, community-based initiatives outside of our partner network to strengthen their communities in recovery during a time of great need, creating a tremendous ripple effect of your donation to countless communities and lives.

The earthquake may be over a year out, but the terrifying memory of so much destruction remains close to the hearts and minds of survivors. Your donation helps support our partners’ extraordinary dedication to rebuilding their communities.

Here is a glimpse of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • The Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization is rooted in Ankara, Turkey, where their local team supports refugees and asylum seekers on the ground. After the earthquakes, they provided targeted support to women-led emergency relief in earthquake-affected communities. In more recent months, they have shifted to mid- and long-term recovery efforts such as  support with housing, vocational training, and economic growth projects, as well as providing direct cash assistance to local grassroot organizations and community members,  which provide greater flexibility and support to the flexible needs of recovering communities.
  • Hayata Destek Dernegi/Support to Lifewas founded in Istanbul in 2009 to offer direct social services like flexible micro-grants, technical assistance, and capacity building to growing local organizations and community groups. One example of this is their work providing technical assistance to younger nonprofits to expand and improve their operations. Post earthquake, Support to Life aims to enhance coordination within civil society to restore livelihoods and strengthen societal infrastructure to reduce future risk of disaster.
  • TurkishPhilanthropy Fundsis a Turkish community foundation focused on high-impact social investments dedicated to Turkish and Turkish-American communities. After the earthquakes, TPF has successfully mobilized over $19 million in support to nearly 50 grassroots organizations in Turkey, directly reaching over 1.5 million people in need.
  • Center For Civil Society And Democracy is supporting local organizations across Syria, with a focus on peacebuilding and humanitarian support, including efforts led by women's groups. It is currently working with 15 organizations in Northwest Syria in a new cycle and planning to support 15 additional organizations in Northwest and Northeast Syria to address community needs directly through small grants to implementing partners. With plans to engage with 60 organizations, starting with 30 this year, it is facilitating the development of concept notes for projects with a total funding amount of $4 million, positioning itself as a significant grantmaker for registered organizations in the region.

GlobalGiving is committed to supporting the long-term recovery efforts in Turkey and Syria, working closely with local nonprofit partners to provide relief and help rebuild lives. We will continue to manage this fund and support our partners in the months and years ahead.

From everyone at GlobalGiving, thank you for your incredible generosity and support. It is truly making a difference—now and in the years to come.

With gratitude,

Alli + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
