TÜRKIYE AND SYRIA 2023 EARTHQUAKES – RESPONSE UPDATE (As of 01 AUGUST)

TÜRKIYE:

IOM Turkiye’s Shelter and Non-Food Items team continued to provide assitance. As a result, a total of 1,525 sleeping mats were donated to the Defne Sub-Governate in Hatay, which will be distributed to households residing in Relief Housing Units.
Additionally, the sub-governate received 500 hygiene kits to be distributed to affected populations in the coming weeks. To further improve accessibility to Water, Sanitation And Hygiene (WASH) facilities, 75 pieces of 500-litre water tanks were successfully delivered to the Antakya Municipality during the reporting period. These tanks will be connected to toilets and showers previously delivered by IOM. In cooperation with the Presidency of Migration Management, a total of 420 hygiene kits and 420 jerry cans were distributed in a formal tent settlement in Antakya. Moreover, 48 single toilets, including one for persons with disabilities, were distributed in Kahramanmaras.
During the reporting period, 1,569 families benefitted from unconditional/unrestricted cash assistance. In total, 506 individuals also benefitted from IOM’s Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities in Adana. Finally, continuing to contribute to recovery efforts, IOM will work with an implementing partner to support affected the rural agri producers will be linked to the consumers and public and private organizations through a platform, to prevent production interruptions through pre-sales and contracted production agreements., Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Mersin and Sanliurfa.
SYRIA

IOM Turkiye’s Cross-border team has finalized the replacement of 2,020 tents with prefabricated dignified shelters and the upgrade of WASH infrastructure in 10 camps in Idleb. To date, 90 per cent of constructed transitional dignified shelter units have been occupied by beneficiaries. Two thousand affected households received NFI kits through IOM’s implementing partner in Idleb governorate.

During the reporting period, 1,634 individuals benefitted from medical consultations at an IOM-supported hospital. This includes 675 individuals who received sexual and reproductive health services, and 102 women who gave birth to healthy children. IOM’s Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) team conducted care and maintenance works in five IOM-supported reception centres through implementing partners.

To date, 2,934 households have been supported with e-voucher assistance, thanks to IOM’s food security interventions. IOM’s Early Recovery team launched a new project to provide emergency employment linked to critical rehabilitation of civilian infrastructure and recovery support to micro- and small businesses in Nothern Aleppo.

As a result of the work done by IOM’s WASH team in partnership with three implementing partners over the last two weeks, 61,505m3 of chlorinated water was distributed to affected populations. Additionally, 2,346m3 of solid waste was removed and transferred to the landfill, while 9,424m3 of wastewater was desludged from existing cesspits and septic tanks. In addition, IOM distributed donated items – 40 big volume water tanks, 7,500 jerrycans, 298 generators and 500 hygiene kits. A total of 1,092 residents of camps and reception centres benefitted from hygiene promotion sessions, while 86 women benefitted from menstrual hygiene themed sessions. More than 3,100 affected individuals benefitted from MHPSS activities provided by IOM partners.
