In January, schools across Kenya reopened fully after 9 months of closures due to COVID.
At the Fountains of Hope School, we welcomed back over 130 children to school last month. We are delighted to have them all back in class.
We are following the guidelines set by the government to ensure staff and children stay COVID safe at school. This includes wearing masks, washing hands and sitting 1m apart in class. This has meant we've had to provide more textbooks as children used to share one between two, now they have one each. We're also buying a lot more water and soap to keep up with the regular hand washing and cleaning in high-touch points.
The teachers are working hard to help children catch-up after so long out of class. Meanwhile, we have been running art sessions with the children to give them an outlet to process such an unusual, and in some cases traumatic, year.
We are so grateful for your support throughout the school closures and now that we have reopened the school again. Thank you.
