Thank you so much to each and every person who has made Refugiu's tutoring programme possible!
CHW started fundraising for this programme back in 2013. Since 2015, it has been completely funded through our GlobalGiving page. This is just amazing and we want to thank you for being a part of this. Robert, the Head of Refugiu, will now be focussing more on some of the other projects he has started in the village of Tarlungeni, such as assisting families with birth and ID registrations, access to healthcare and the distribution of resources, like food and clothes. He has said that an education project run by another organisation is now running in Tarlungeni, in the same place where he was tutoring. We were glad to hear about this programme for the children. As our GlobalGiving page was made to support Refugiu's tutoring programme, we will be closing it. We cannot thank you enough for all your help and support over the past three years! CHW will continue to work with Refugiu and Robert has already sent us an appeal for funding for winter coats and boots for the children that Refugiu assists!
Thanks to your support, school items, shoes and clothes could be provided for the children before school started in September. This was a great help, as it meant the children were prepared for the new school year.
Robert gave an update on a boy called Romi. Romi is thirteen and found it difficult to focus and had other difficulties with learning. He is now in Grade 5. He has attended the programme for the last few years. When he started, his mother did not even think he could succeed in school as she did not believe he could manage. Robert said: "I worked a lot with him because he did not have the power to concentrate. He could not remember letters and he did not know the colours. For more than two years, we have worked together and now Romi reads, writes (it is still difficult for him, but he can now write!) counts and is a smart boy. We succeeded!"
The children have really benefitted from the tutoring programme, and this is something that will always help them, as education is so important.
Thank you very much to FAST, another Romanian charity, for introducing us to Refugiu and for forming this link between Refugiu and CHW. Refugiu has been using a classroom in a building constructed by FAST for this programme throughout the years. Both organisations are doing great work in Tarlungeni (and FAST also has other projects in the surrounding area too).
A massive thank you to each person who made it possible to continue with the tutoring programme. This started as a small project to support the children of one family, who had lost their father to cancer, and grew to benefit those children and others from this community. Updates from Refugiu will be shared on our Facebook page from time to time, so please do visit it, to see how the children in Tarlungeni are doing!
