Tutoring for Success: Changing Lives in Benin

Access to safe water remains a significant challenge for many students in our program, with 64.7% of households lacking access to clean drinking water. For these families, fetching water is a daily necessity that often falls on children—especially girls. Some students travel long distances to water sources, spending valuable time and energy on this essential task instead of focusing on their education.

Recognizing this challenge, families in our program have pledged not to require their children to fetch water during their twice-weekly tutoring sessions. This commitment ensures that students—both boys and girls—have uninterrupted time to concentrate on their studies. The impact is clear: the more education a child receives, the greater their opportunities for financial stability and improved living conditions, including reliable access to potable water and sanitation facilities.

By reducing the burden of water collection, we are taking an important step toward empowering students to focus on their future. Clean water and education should not be competing priorities—every child deserves access to both.

In September, Trois Soeurs Education Fund kicked off the 2024–2025 school year with a spirited "Back to School" gathering that brought together 40 students, their families, tutors, and staff. Held in the heart of the community, the event underscored our shared commitment to education. Tutors discussed goals for the year, like boosting confidence and improving exam readiness, while parents shared their aspirations for their children.

This meeting celebrated progress and renewed our collective dedication to creating brighter futures through education. Our students are not only supported academically but also empowered to share their knowledge, inspiring siblings and friends to strive for success.
