Update on Coconut Replanting

Coconut seedlings from Mindanao
Coconut seedlings from Mindanao

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Leyte and may I thank you once again for your generous support. I did not realize that coconut replanting for Leyte is such a difficult task because of the unavailability of coconut seeds to make into seedlings. Almost 90% of the coconut trees have been destroyed because of the typhoon and those left standing are badly damaged it will take years before they will recover.

Fortunately we have an on-going coconut seedling production and tree planting in our home-base in Misamis Oriental, Mindanao and we are initiating ways in order to bring initial seedlings for tree planting and demonstration activities in Leyte. We are also starting to make our own organic fertilizer by vermi-composting and using the organic debris, coconut trunks and manure. We aim to produce 750 sacks of organic fertilizer in a month and distribute this to the beneficiaries.

Hoping for your continuing support to this important initiative. Hope that your friends and colleagues will be able to help too.

Very sincerely yours,

Cora
