We will provide planting materials, organic fertilizer and technical support to farmers venturing on dragon-fruit farming in order for them to improve their farming incomes. We will also provide product processing and marketing support and organize them into a production and marketing cooperative for social and economic leverage.
Farmers need to find and select high-valued crops in order to catapult income increase and the traditional corn and root crops production is no longer giving good incomes, with pest and diseases and lack of seeds and farm inputs hounding the farmer. There is a need to find alternatives and in our recent experience, dragon-fruit provides opportunities for a farmer.
Dragon-fruit farming provides high income and economic opportunities for a small farmer. The plant is easy to grow and maintain and the fruits provide a lot of health benefits and they are sought-after in the market. Demand is always high, the problem is the lack of planting materials and technical support for the farmer and this project will provide this much-needed resources.
Farmers are always in search of opportunities in order to improve farm production and incomes and traditional crops do not provide this anymore. The potential long-term impact in dragon-fruit farming is improved income and well-being of the farmer and in turn the improvement of the economy of the village.
