Dear Friends,

Warm greetings from Leyte and thank you very much for your generous donation in order for us to expand our communal hand-washing project for selected schools ravaged by Typhoon Haiyan. To date we were able to construct a total of 17 communal hand-wash using iron pipes connected to a water source. Our design is robust in that we use no faucet which is easily broken and or stolen as in the case of other communal hand-wash stations. Instead we are boring micro-holes in the pipes where water flows every time the children use the hand-wash. Last month 2 of our staff attended a workshop organized by another NGO in order to improve our design.

During implementation we found out that there are some schools where water is difficult to source. Children as well as parents have to walk long hours in order to fetch water usually from a spring or a creek. In this case we decided to complement our project with the construction of giant ferro-cement jars that harvests water from the school roof via a gutter. In this reporting period we were able to produce 4 10,000 liters ferro-cement jars and located in a school in Ormoc City. The jars costs less compared to traditional poured concrete. We aim to construct 15 more by middle of this year.

With this, may I thank you for your very generous support.

With much gratitude,

Cora Sayre
