Continue harvesting fruits and vegetables

Harvesting crops

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Leyte and thank you very much for your generous support to provide food security to Typhoon Haiyan survivors here in Leyte. We are indeed proud to inform you that despite the hot climate as a result of El Nino, our farmer-beneficiaries continue to harvest from the crops that they have planted. Some of the vegetables and fruits like papaya and banana survive the hot climate and are providing our beneficiaries with much-needed food and income. While they harvest we continue to provide them with vegetable seeds and planting materials. This time we are gearing-up to cover additional 3 barrios and supply farmers with vegetable seedlings and root crop planting materials. We have linked with the Visayas State University based in Baybay, Leyte, 25 kilometers away from our base. Aside from these, we are also encouraging them to plant high-valued fruit, timber and commercial trees like durian and mango. We already have a list of 145 families who are interested in this mixed-cropping system and we wait for the coming of first rains before we implement this new initiative.

Again, thank you very much for your generous support.

Very sincerely yours,

Cora Sayre
