By Cora Sayre | Project Leader
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Warm greetings from Leyte and thank you very much for your kind support to our project to provide food security to typhoon survivors. This reporting period we are happy to report that we our beneficiaries are starting to harvest crops that withstand El Nino. One such crop is turmeric which is a rhizome and grows under the soil. Turmeric has many known beneficial health benefits and is a winner in the market with supply always short and demand high. A total of 134 families were able to plant turmeric in their farm lots and they have a choice of either selling the raw turmeric in the market or we integrate it and process it as tea and capsuled powder. At the moment since production is still low, they opt to sell the turmeric raw but our long term goal will be to secure basic equipment such as grinder and capsule maker so that we can process the turmeric for high-end market.
Again, thank you very much.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
