Project Report | Jan 24, 2023
Stars in their Eyes, Strength in Their Hearts

By Barbara Borgman | Project Leader

In Southern Africa, January is the start of a new school year.

January, then, is when Ubuntu Education Fund managers meet to review beneficiaries, elements of our program, revise, evaluate and find new ideas to support our goals.  Jan 2023   is here!

Our goals this year include:

Funding four students, coincidentally all  motivated young women

Building an effective communication system between managers and                                         beneficiaries for  listening, reporting , monitoring .

Promote Play it Forward idea for our alumni beneficiaries to help another                                 vulnerable young  person in their circle of influence to make significant progress                     towards  personal goals in education or training. We managers commit to timely                  motivating nudges via Whats App or email.

Our most recent student is a 31 year old single mother who is ready to build on a nursery educator certificate and study for Early Child Development diploma as a Gr 1-3 teacher.   She has been mentored by our NGO staff for many years and is fully capable of achieving her goal.  Whoo whoo to her!

On Dec 30, 2022  we hosted a HOMECOMING party for young adults who had grown up at our residential center, Kwethu Children’s Village.  Rainy, cold enough for a hearth fire, we still had a wonderful time catching up, yells of delight to see old friends.  6 graduates of  programs, funded by Ubuntu Eucation over many years, in good jobs, three completed certificates and searching for internships, two just graduated from high school and considering what to do next.  Rousing volleyball game, lots of photos, and a great meal together. We love our close bonds.and  saw the result of Ubuntu Education support in the confidence, verbal thanks and articulated:   "If you weren’t helping us, where would we be, Gogo B?     Thank you so much. "

That heart felt thankfulness we pass on to you, most honoured donors!

Lets keep the life line going . We’d love it if you could share our good work with someone else you know that might become a monthly donor like yourselves…So we're HERE, doing what you believe in!..
