We are happy to report that we are continuing to make strides in solidifying the nutritional make-up of our Ugandan grown spirulina with the government and third-party testing facilities. Our farm, SDI is continuing to work with children at primary schools around the Fort Portal region. And now, we are kicking off our pilot hospital partnership.
We have been working over the past few months to ensure we have the programming lined up and credentials in place to start our first hospital trial. We are partnering with the Masaka Regional Hospital efforts to combat malnutrition and providing hard data showcasing the impacts of spirulina on those diagnosed with acute of chronic malnutrition.
This partnership allows Blue Atlas, with your support, to showcase how local farmers can solve malnutrition in a low-tech, cost-effective way. For $.15/day we are able to provide nutritional support in a complete way with just a few grams a day. This three-month study provides support for all outreach for the doctor and nursing staff. Many people who suffer and/or have children who suffer from malnutrition do not have the financial or emotional resources to always to show up at a clinic if there is a need. We have established our programming to include home visits so that those who need it most, have accessible nutrition.
We are building larger partnerships to combat malnutrition with affordable ponds or providing a product that provides an alternative protein and something that can be produced on scale to those in the most vulnerable populations.
A few good things, as a reminder about spirulina.
Depending upon growing practices the protein content falls between 55-70% and it had a complete nutritional profile that isn’t compromised upon dehydrating practices. At the end of the day spirulina stands as a shelf stable, protein heavy, nutritional supplement that allows for ease of provisioning. Spirulina can be added to any beverage or meal to enhance necessary and lifesaving and/or life-enriching nutrients that combat the lasting impacts of hunger and malnutrition.
