Feeding in the ponds

Dear Valued Partner:

Thank you for making a difference to almost 1,000 school children at Nchiru Children's Village in rural Kenya by ensuring a weekly fish meal! Students from St. Francis, St. Clare and St. Philomena look forward to their weekly fish supper which also keeps them in good health and as engaged learners. Each week more than 500 fish are consumed which in total weigh more than 1,000 pounds. That's a big catch! Thank you for making this possible.

Almost one third of the fish consumed by the children are raised from hatchery fingerlings. At the St. Francis school site, Mr. Evans rears fingerlings in 2 concrete ponds and in 1 liner pond. This year, with your support, production of fingerlings has doubled to 10,000 tilapia fingerlings. Rearing tilapia fingerlings is more cost-effective because their feed inputs are more affordable and the water maintenance is less costly. Tilapia fingerlings also grow quickly in 3-4 months and have a low mortality rate during production.

We hope to expand the success of the fish program with additional hatchery equipment. The NCV Food Security Program requires more holding tanks and fishing gear. Please consider a donation for program expansion.

We remain sincerely grateful for your support!
