Summary

The horrifying destruction of Ukraine's Nova Kakhovka dam on June 6th is potentially an ecological disaster. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the incident as mass environmental damage. People have died, many have lost their homes, and access to food and water is limited. As floods sweep the region, people need urgent access to essentials! We help affected people access the basics for survival, such as food, water and medicines.

Challenge

In the early hours of Tuesday, June 6th, a major dam in southern Ukraine, located in an occupied territory, sustained critical damages triggering floods and sparking safety concerns. Europe's largest nuclear plant uses water from the Kakhovka reservoir, connected with the dam, to cool its reactors. While the extent of the disaster is unknown, it has caused ecological damage, destruction of infrastructure, and massive displacement. Thousands are at risk of water, food and shelter deprivation.

Solution

This event will have far-ranging consequences for tens of thousands of people. However, the priority is the immediate safety and survival of people in the region. While rescue operations are underway, residents need access to supplies. BKC, working with local partners, will provide emergency essentials such as food, water, clothing and medicines - whatever is required to deliver relief to people in the affected area.

Long-Term Impact

The extent of human tragedy resulting from this war is unquantifiable. People are dying, and homes and livelihoods have been lost - Ukraine is fighting for its survival. Your help - providing essentials to those affected by this deliberate flooding - will help people through this horrendous period. This project helps people who have lost everything in the flood, giving them the tools and support to face this brutality with dignity.
