In the early hours of Tuesday, June 6th, a major dam in southern Ukraine, located in an occupied territory, sustained critical damages triggering floods and sparking safety concerns. Europe's largest nuclear plant uses water from the Kakhovka reservoir, connected with the dam, to cool its reactors. While the extent of the disaster is unknown, it has caused ecological damage, destruction of infrastructure, and massive displacement. Thousands are at risk of water, food and shelter deprivation.
This event will have far-ranging consequences for tens of thousands of people. However, the priority is the immediate safety and survival of people in the region. While rescue operations are underway, residents need access to supplies. BKC, working with local partners, will provide emergency essentials such as food, water, clothing and medicines - whatever is required to deliver relief to people in the affected area.
