Ukuleles for kids with brain cancer

Summary

Kids with brain cancer are undergoing the fight of their lives. To help the heart sing, and the brain heal, we want to send these kids a ukulele that they can use during music therapy sessions and beyond. Music therapy is vital for improving memory and attention, as well as enhancing psychological coping and helping with the expression of thoughts and feelings, and these ukuleles are a great beginners instrument to get the heart singing and the brain healing.

Challenge

Music is more than just fun and relaxing, it can have a profound impact on our brains. Music therapy is the evidence-based use of music to accomplish individualised treatment goals. For children with brain cancer, it can help to improve memory and attention, as well enhance psychological coping and help children express their thoughts and feelings. This project encourages these children to participate in music therapy to improve their recovery outcomes.

Solution

Ukuleles are a great beginners instrument to give to children with brain cancer as they can easily learn simple chords and quickly learn easy songs. The children we have given ukuleles to have enthusiastically participated in their music therapy sessions and we have seen great improvement in memory and motor skills which are often impacted as a result of surgery. The ukuleles make the heart sing and the brain heal.

Long-Term Impact

The project will give 100 children with brain cancer a ukulele to help them through recovery and the fight of their lives.
