UN Migration Aid for Internally Displaced Afghans

Summary

Hundreds of thousands of people have been internally displaced in Afghanistan in the last two months. Under our UN mandate to coordinate and manage displacement responses globally, IOM is on the ground providing lifesaving supplies and building emergency shelters for those who have been forced to leave their homes. Delivering humanitarian aid in this ever-changing context is difficult, but your support can make a difference!

Challenge

More than 5 million people are displaced in Afghanistan and living in extremely precarious conditions. As of July 2021, nearly 275,000 have had to flee their homes. This large-scale displacement, driven by conflict and drought, and exacerbated by COVID-19, has increased poverty and food insecurity, and limited Afghan's access to shelter, sanitation and health services. More than half of Afghanistan's population currently requires humanitarian assistance, including 10 million children.

Solution

Families across Afghanistan need emergency shelter, sanitation and hygiene services, protection, livelihood and social cohesion support. Your donation will support UN Migration to provide lifesaving supplies and assist Afghans' long-term recovery.

Long-Term Impact

The people of Afghanistan are resilient. IOM has been actively implementing humanitarian services in Afghanistan for 20 years. To promote the long-term sustainability of our work we work with the community and the provincial governments to develop local capacity to respond to both current and future crises.
