Dear Friends,
Our AAI sponsored school of Lugmah ES has been making great strides in reading comprehension due to the dedication of the teachers, students and families. Not only during regular classroom instruction, but also through reading clinics and participation with parents and other family members.
Elementary Teacher Barbara says.. "We are often not paid, yet we volunteer to conduct additional Reading Camps and other learning activities..."
Rural classrooms have been improved with funding and guidance from Asia Ameica Initiative. Our pupils feel cared for and loved. Parents see the value of peace. Hope for the future. Cement floors and chairs made are by parents...school lunches are served and workshops are taught with parents' participation.
In the most impoverished multi-ethnic island provinces of the Philippines, Asia America Initiative (AAI) supports lunch programs and school gardens as part of our "One School -- One Family" health and nutrition program for malnourished children.
AAI’s role is to support elementary schools with strong bonds between parents and school staff. Their dedication makes the difference in overcoming the challenges of survival in this difficult environment. Parents and other family members participate in growing school-based organic gardens and preparing and serving school lunches. Their volunteer time working together also makes a difference in building peace between families and rival clans.
In AAI-sponsored schools, parents know their child will be fed and cared for, have access to clean water, and participate in a quality education program. With our focus on better nutrition and better classrooms, several schools have become models of award-winning performances within their province and the larger Autonomous Region of Mindanao.
