Dear Donor,
Thanks to your continued support, Development Alert remains focused on the importance of community preparedness in areas connected through travel, trade, family relationships, and shared livelihoods.
The recent imported Ebola case in Kenya demonstrates how a health emergency in one country can require coordinated public-health action across several countries. The patient travelled from the DRC through Uganda before arriving in Kenya. The incident has reinforced the need for timely information sharing, contact tracing, surveillance, and preparedness at points of entry.
Uganda's outbreak was declared over in August after 42 days without a new confirmed case. However, the continuing outbreak in the DRC and the imported case in Kenya underline the importance of maintaining vigilance and preparedness.
Our community-led approach promotes accurate health information, hand hygiene, early reporting of suspected illness, and cooperation with health authorities. We also recognize the importance of ensuring that transport workers, traders, schools, and border communities can access clear, practical prevention messages.
Preparedness is strongest when communities are informed before an emergency reaches their doorstep.
Your generosity is helping build the awareness and cooperation needed to protect communities and strengthen regional resilience.
