Cross-Border Awareness and Community Preparedness

By Development Alert | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Thank you for supporting Development Alert's commitment to protecting communities through awareness, cooperation, and preparedness.

Ebola does not respect administrative boundaries. People travel for work, trade, education, healthcare, and family responsibilities. This makes reliable information and coordination particularly important in communities connected to cross-border movement.

As of 4 November, the DRC had reported 10,668 confirmed cases and 5,198 deaths. Kenya had reported nine confirmed cases and two deaths, while Nigeria was following contacts linked to its confirmed imported case. Uganda had also strengthened measures at points of entry after 60 contacts associated with the Kenyan case completed their 21-day monitoring period.

Development Alert's community-focused response emphasizes sharing accurate prevention information, promoting safe hygiene, and encouraging people to seek guidance from health authorities when they have concerns about possible exposure.

We recognize that border communities need information that is practical, accessible, and delivered through trusted local networks. Preparedness should not create fear or discrimination against people who travel or live near borders. Instead, it should encourage responsible behaviour and cooperation.

Your generosity helps strengthen community awareness and regional preparedness. Thank you for helping protect communities whose lives and livelihoods connect across borders.
